Baby Kristine's Birth Story
In the weeks Leading up to Baby Kristine's Birth.
Due date was set for March 14, 2014 but I was totally ready for baby girl to come when I hit 37 weeks! I was so incredibly uncomfortable and just wanted to be done with this pregnancy. I started to lose my mucus plug Sat March 1st, I also started to have really Strong Braxton Hicks that day. I kind of thought that I might go into labor that week (I was hoping that I would). But alas, nothing happened. The strong braxton Hicks stopped coming and everything went back to normal for me until Thursday March 6th when I lost more of my plug and the real strong Braxton hicks came back in full swing and stayed! I was pretty excited about this and lived each day as though the baby could come that day! I was making sure I was getting a lot of sleep and drinking a lot of water and eating really well. No baby! Labor Day! March 14, 2014, Kristine's due date, I woke up at 2:50 AM with my FIRST real contraction! I was pretty excited about it, but didn't want to wake Sam up or call my mom until I was sure they were going to stick around for a while, so I just tried going back to sleep. The contractions were coming pretty regularly though and I was to excited to sleep so I got on facebook and looked at my newsfeed. I noticed that my brother Micah was on facebook so I started a conversation with him and told him that I had started having contractions. They were coming every 3-5 Minutes and lasting from 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes. After about 45 minutes, I finally called my mom and told her what was going on with me, I told her that I didn't want her to come up quite yet but she didn't listen to me and Elizabeth and mom were on their way within a half hour. I then called my Mother In Law and told her about my contractions. I then decided to tell Sam that the big day had arrived! He was pretty excited but we were both Very tired so we went to sleep :-) Mom arrived at 6:20 and Noe, Donata and Amanda showed up around 8:00. By then, my contractions had pretty much stopped :-( We all had breakfast, Donata took Adriana out to IHOP and then took her up to Micke Grove zoo and mom, Elizabeth, Sam and I decided to go to the Nursery and get plants to put in the front yard. We went to Subway and Jamba juice. I didn't want to eat but I did get a smoothie.
This picture was taken outside of Subway. Elizabeth is 28 weeks pregnant with her twins I was 40 weeks EXACTLY.
After we got back home, my sister and I went on a walk around the neighborhood to try and get my contractions started again. When I came back though, they still hadn't started again so I decided to lay down for a nap and get some more rest. I woke up at 5:39 and when I went Pee, I had some bloody show! :-) after this, my contractions started again coming every 5-9 minutes and lasting 30 seconds to 1.5 Minutes. They were stronger now but I was still happy and conversing really well with my family. I was a bit discouraged though and just so ready to actually get things rolling on this whole Labor Process!
My mother and father in Law left after dinner to go sleep at the tow yard. Amanda, Alissa, mom, and Elizabeth stayed here and we hung out in the living room for a bit while Sam went to lay down for a nap (he was pretty tired after putting up some fence and planting a rose bush). We lit some candles and put up Xmas lights, However, my contractions were not going anywhere and I was getting tired so we all decided to go to bed, it was around 10:00 PM when we climbed in bed. at 11:29 I woke up with the strongest contraction yet! and another on 3 minutes later and another one after 16 minutes. These contractions were so strong that I had to breath through them and focus on relaxing my body. Sam woke up at some point and helped me relax. after about 45 minutes, I had only had 6 contractions. I decided to get up and go pee and while I was there, my contractions started coming every 5 minutes! FINALLY ACTIVE labor! Sam and I went out to the living room to try laboring on the couch or birthing Ball, but I was so uncomfortable and I needed to pee again so Sam and I went back to the bathroom. On the way there, I had another 3 contractions. We finally got to the toilet and I kept having contrations every 1-2 minutes! These ones were so strong I had to moan through them! Sam was great and stayed with me and helped me relax! At this point, I was quite sure I NEVER wanted to get off the toilet! I had found a comfortable place to labor LOL! around 1:14 Am, I broke down and started crying telling Sam "I don't want to do this! I don't want to do this!" It was after that episode, that I told Sam "We should call Lucinda" (Lucinda is our Midwife)Sam said "I think you are right" He then got on my phone and Called her and told her how often and how long and all that good stuff, We had been waiting for 5-1-1 (Five Minutes apart lasting one minute for one hour) But it looked like things were progressing faster then anticipated and Lucinda had a 45 minute drive to our house. She told us "I'm on my way and going to be going as fast as I can" I remember that even though I was having a contraction at the time. I wanted to tell her not to kill herself trying to get to us LOL! I never got the words out. After we got off the phone with Lucinda, Sam forced me to get off the toilet and get in the tub... After I got in the water, I didn't have a contraction for like 8 minutes but not to worry, they came RIGHT BACK in FULL FORCE! I need to say at this point that having the tub was AMAZING! The water was so relaxing and warm and even though my contractions were awful, I have a feeling they would have been worse outside of the tub!
Lucinda walked into the house at about 2:00 AM and at 2:01 I told her "Lucinda I feel like I need to push" she had just gotten her fetal doppler monitor out to listen to baby, she told me "I'm not going to stop you" so the next contraction I had, I pushed! YIKES! lol Every push/contraction, I could feel Kristine wiggling her way down! I believe it was on my third push that I felt my water break then came the ring of FIRE and on the 5th push, baby girls head was free, however her cord was wrapped around her body and she couldn't come completely out so she hung there for a little bit, boy that was UNCOMFORTABLE! we finally got her out and she popped up out of the water but had to go back down again because the cord was still wrapped around her. She sucked in some water so we had to do a bit of suctioning to get that out but she was beautiful and perfect and I was DONE! Kristine let out maybe two small wails and that was it! She rested in my arms all peaceful and happy like!
We decided that I needed to get my placenta out so I stood up and pushed it out and that was that! After I was out of the tub and sitting on the couch, I figured I should try nursing baby girl. Wow, she took to nursing like a little champion and has never gone back!
Sam went and got Adriana up to introduce her to her new sister! Adriana was very tired and it was hard to get her to wake up, but when we finally did, she was so happy and excited about her little sister! She commented on how Kristine was eating my boobies and how she didn't want Kristine to bite her belly Button! When ever Adriana talks about Kristine "Coming out" she mentions how "mommy had blood on her foot" and how "mommy Cried" and "her bottom hurt". I did have blood on my foot but I have NO clue where she got the idea that I was crying and that my bottom hurt LOL! Funny girl!
After 39 Minutes after birth, we cut the cord.
And Adriana got to hold her sister for the first time! Kristine started crying and Adriana said "She needs her mommy." she then turned and called out "Mommy!" I wasn't in the room, but I think it is just awesome that she recognized that I was Kristine's Mommy too! So far they get along GREAT!
well, thank you for reading my poorly written story :-) I must say that having Kristine at home was AMAZING! It was so nice not to have people poking and prodding me and telling me HOW I needed to birth my baby! I was allowed to do as my body instructed! Oh and by the way, I barely had any tearing at all! Water births are AMAZING!
